The American alternative-rock band, Evanescence, formed in Little Rock Arkansas in the summer of 1994. The band was founded by Amy Hartzler and Ben Moody when Ben heard Amy doing and impromptu of Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love" in a crowded room. The two befriended each other and started making songs together.
Their first music material, Evanescence EP, featured six demo songs recorded by both Amy and Ben. Give Unto Me, Solitude, Understanding, and My Immortal were the first four songs written by Evanescence.
Their second release, Sound Asleep/Whisper EP, featured a few more new songs and other versions of the previous songs such as Understanding and Imaginary.
Origin, the first major release, featured some songs Amy and Ben composed in high school. Old songs were re-made and only a few copies were made. Origin was produced with the help of Bigwig Enterprises and their new member David Hodges and guest players, William Boyd and John LeCompt.
Before debuting with their first studio album, Evanescence released Mystary EP. This was a preview of what was to be on the CD. However, different versions are on the album and some unincluded songs from the album exist on the EP. At this time, Hodges left the band.
Their debut studio album, Fallen, has sold over 15 million copies worldwide and has studio versions of their previous songs: Imaginary, My Immortal, and Whisper. Two versions of My Immortal are featured on the CD. Ben Moody left the band at this time.
Their live CD/DVD, Anywhere But Home, has sold 1.5 million copies. This DVD features Evanescence @ Zenith, Paris. The concert has 11 songs + 1 outtake from Fallen: Missing. The DVD also features Music Videos, Behind the Scenes, and a special performance of Bring Me To Life.
Their newest release, The Open Door, has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The 13 track featured CD contains great singles like Call Me When You're Sober, Lithium, and Good Enough. The CD won "Album of the Year" in Australia. The album also reached the top spot on Billboard's Music Charts in a month. The Open Door's outtake planned to be released as b-sides on singles, but only The Last Song I'm Wasting On You made the Lithium single.
