I owe you a great debt for introducing me to Deanna Durbin. I am absolutely enchanted by her singing. What a loss for the world when she quit show business!
Very strange for me is the media blackout. This great star should not have been allowed to fade away into quasi oblivion, even if she sought a life away from the limelight in a foreign land.
She has entered my pantheon of woman singers along with Kathleen Ferrier, Janet Baker, Edith Piaf, Birgit Nielson, Berthe Sylva and Vera Lynn.

Thanks for your posts! I adore Deanna! She was lucky. She quit while the quitting was good. And still lives happily in rural France! A couple of years after Deanna left Hollywood and moved to France, she got a call from old chum, Judy Garland, who was opening at the London Palladium.(And yes they were friends, they bonded when they were both pregnant with their daughters!) Judy told Deanna about the Palladium and without missing a beat, Deanna replied, "Oh, Judy, darling! Are you still in that asshole business?!!!"
