The day a window fell in love with a penguin
Ubuntu Tribe the movie is inspired in the Basque free software developers community, which actually has a lot of handicaps adapting the language to the fast changes of the new technologies. But the effort of this community has made the Basque language not to be threw away, so far, from the information technologies train. In fact, the develop and use of all kind of applications is proportionally much bigger than the real basque speaking population.
The story of the film Ubuntu Tribe happens between Redmond (USA) and the Basque Country. An high position member of a powerful computer science corporation, Billy, fixes its eyes on a young Basque hacker, Izaro, after she discovered diverse serious vulnerabilities of an operating system called Wista. Privative Software.
Captivated by the good doing of the virtuous developer, he will try to offer a contract at any price, moving to the old continent. Just arrived, he will begin prowling the young girl, who is totally reticent to enter the club of Redmond because of her convictions in favor of free software. The bussynesman will start bombing her with substantial economic supplies. Without trying it, he will begin to know the social environment where Izaro moves. A humble life, promoting free operating systems in schools and homes of pensioners.
The active and practically altruistic militancy of Izaro will captive Billy, who quickly falls in love with her and starts to know how the Basque speakers world of free software moves.

Ubuntu Tribe is a semi documentary cyberomantic comedy, to the time that claiming film, rolled under some of the Dogme95 rules. The short movie, still developing, will be distributed online under Creative Commons license.
There will be an original version in euskara and two subtitled versions in English and Spanish.

Ubuntu Tribe filma software askea garatzen duen euskal komunitatean oinarritua dago. Gaur egun arazo ugari ditu teknologia berrien abiaduraren eraginez behar bezala eraldatzeko. Halabaina, komunitate honen ahaleginak mementuz euskara informazioaren teknologia berrien trenetik ez erortzea lortu du. El día que la ventana se enamoró del pingüino
Ubuntu Tribe la película está basada en la comunidad vasca de desarrolladores de software libre, que a día de hoy cuenta con muchas difuicultades para adaptarse a la velocidad de las nuevas tecnologías. No obstante, el esfuerzo de esta comunidad ha conseguido que de momento el euskara no se haya apeado del tren de las nuevas tecnologías de la información. De hecho, el desarrollo y uso de todo tipo de aplicaciones es proporcionalmente desmesurado en comparación con la población vascoparlante.
La trama de Ubuntu Tribe se situa a caballo entre Redmond (EEUU) y el País Vasco. Un cargo importante de una poderosa corporación informática fija sus ojos en una joven hacker vasca, Izaro, después de que ésta haya descubierto diversas vulnerabilidades graves del sistema operativo Wista. Software privativo. Obnubilado por el buen hacer de la virtuosa desarrolladora, tratará de contratarla a toda costa, para lo que se desplazará al viejo continente.
Nada más llegar el corporativo, Billy, comenzará a rondar a la joven, que es totalmente reticente a entrar en el club de Redmond por sus convicciones a favor del software libre, bombardeándola con jugosas ofertas económicas. Sin pretenderlo, comenzará a conocer el entorno en el que se mueve Izaro. Una humilde vida, promocionando sistemas operativos libres en escuelas y hogares de jubilados. La militancia activa y prácticamente altruista de Izaro cautiva a Billy, que rápidamente comienza a enamorarse de ella y a conocer cómo se mueve el mundo vascoparlante del software libre.
La estancia del responsable de Wista se alarga más de lo esperado y en la empresa de Redmond empiezan a precuparse.
Ubuntu Tribe es una cibercomedia romántica semidocumental, al tiempo que reivindicativa, rodada bajo algunas de las normas establecidas por el decálogo Dogma95. El mediometraje, aún en desarrollo, se distribuirá en la red bajo licencia Creative Commons. Contará con una versión original en euskara y sendas versiones subtituladas en inglés y español.
Como hemos dicho, el proyecto está todavía en fase de desarrollo. Y tú puedes ser parte activa del mismo.
