people are asking me the same questions over and over, so reading this should help answer a lot of the generic ones. Still, I appreciate the comments/views and stuff, don't get me wrong.
Check out the rest of my videos if you want to. I do music videos for a part-time-professional job, so that's what most of my work on here is.
So I got my new 5th new drumset; it's actually not that bad, so I got this video of me playing Attack on Expert. In the video, I double-hit on two notes, but at the end of the video, you can see a picture of when I did FC it (the only way to get a Gold Star); so far, i'm the only person on any system to Gold Star/FC this song.
Attack has been one of my favorite songs for a good while now, so maybe that's why I was able to get the #1 score on it? Probably heard this song well over 2,000+ times before I played it on Rock Band, so that'd probably matter a lot haha
I know you can barely see the red drum; seriously, this sucks, I know, I didn't notice it until I was done filming, but I don't think it'll completely kill the video, will it?
I also added a little info thing at the end of the video, showing that this isn't even my top score in the video.

By the way, if you want to know how to do the "notes on the screen" effect; There's a lot of tutorials on the web for this kind of stuff with After Effects, and the best site i've ever been to for them (which i visit frequently) is www.videocopilot.net ; they've got a ton of tutorials, and even a basic training series of videos for the After Effects beginner, and all of it's free. There is not a specific tutorial on this SITE, you need to combine basic techniques that this site will teach you to learn how to do that.
And yes, I play drums in real life, have been for 4+ years, so the people going on about "play a real instrument", no, sorry, I do play real drums.
FINALLY, my grip is fine for playing this game; play on this set before you say that, playing on this set is NOTHING like playing on a real drumset in terms of size, height, feel, movements needed, or anything else.
Not trying to be a dick with all this, just informing people so they don't keep on saying the same stuff, haha, but don't get me wrong, I appreciate the comments.

My first 5-star of this song! I wanted 750k, but that's not gonna happen. I have been putting night after night of practice in on this song for the past week when I decided to get back into it after beating it for the first time in my other TTFAF "Achievement Unlocked" video. But after looking at the leaderboards, and seeing that only like 40 people have ever passed 750k on this song, I quickly realized I'd never make it. That's like top .001 percentile! Crazy. Even with the people who have 5 star'd this song... Not many, maybe only 1000 or so people? So anyway, I set my sights on the more attainable, yet still formidable goal of 5-star'ing TTFAF.
My score of 579902 got me a rank of 525 on this song as of today. OH and I'm so psyched that I got through Herman's Solo without star power! woo! That was the first time I've ever managed that.
You might also notice my sad star power path. I can never rely on getting the same SP phrases when I play this song (since it's so hard and I'll miss some), so every time I just improvise a path.
This vid shows me playing more comfortably with the song compared to my last TTFAF video. Still, it was a struggle, even if it looks easy. Anyone who thinks "that's easier on drums", guess again. I have no pull-off capability and have to hit every note with a stick, so zig-zag sections are very difficult and are usually a cause for me to lose my multiplier. Another reason I'll never 750k this song.
But at least I'm using the patched version of GH3 with the lag calibration fix! So it looks nicer. Maybe less people will post "fake" on this one. ;-P
At the end of the vid, I have a little segment where I "prove" there is no cheating going on. So, stay tuned for that. However, since there's a 10 minute time limit for youtube vids, I had to cut out the time it took me to get setup after finishing the song and doing my little "proof" thing so it's technically an "edit" and could've been doctored. Q: How does it work?

Q: How do you do 3-note chords?
A: All "two adjacent note" power chords are mapped to the top 4 pads, so with two sticks I can play any 3-note chord except GYO. But I can get that with one stick in left hand and two fingers on right hand.
Q: How do you do whammy and star power?
A: I use a bass drum pedal on my right foot to activate star power, and a hi-hat pedal on my left foot to control whammy depth.
Q: How do you hold notes?
A: My MIDI Hero software has an auto-hold feature for every note hit because it's more natural for a drummer to play that way. It's not a good feeling to mash sticks into drum pads to hold notes.
Q: How much does this cost?
A: The drumKat is a pro-quality MIDI drum pad set. These days, they run about $1k. I also use a PC to run my custom home-brew MIDI Hero software to interpret the drum events. Then the "XIM" and "XFPS" add another $100+. This is not made for the masses. This is a one-of-a-kind setup.
Q: Do you play real drums? Are you in a band?
A: Yes, I've been playing drums since 1986. I have been in various bands from Jazz to Ska over the years. Right now I'm in the Detroit-based ska band The Exceptions.
Q: Are you getting Rock Band?
A: Yes, eventually, now that there is a mod out there that'll allow me to use my MIDI pads on it. My current setup will not work with Rock Band since my mod is seen by the console as a standard controller and Rock Band will not let you play the drum parts with a standard controller.
Q: Is "MIDI Hero" available to the public?
A: I haven't decided yet if I'm going to make it publicly available. I'll keep the answer to this question updated in the FAQs of all future videos if anything ever changes in this department. If I did ever release it, I'd also likely have a link to it on my website.
