It's not really her fault if it wasn't good. It's mostly the record label's fault for not hiring better songwriters (and then it's also the songwriter's fault). I haven't heard her album, but her voice is so stellar that, assuming that by "didn't make the cut" you meant the songs were just bad rather than her voice sounding bad, it's not really her fault. Given, a good artist can shape any song into sounding ok, but there's only so much the artist can do.
