Dying to know how your move went, how you feel about leaving Paris and returning to the U.K...and, of course, the new job.
You went to Oxford for university studies way back when, n'est-ce pas? I assume, and hope, that you feel right at home. SUCH a lovely area. Ben was selected for a summer IB seminar two summers ago, and he enjoyed it just as much as Paris (where he's stayed a number of times), if not more. (Oh! He's back at Duke now, falling in love with linguistics! I keep telling him that he simply MUST take one of Toril's classes at some point...looked her up on the Duke home page the other day and, I swear, the woman has not aged a day since I was her student twentysomething years ago !)

Chaos reigned all summer (well, it really all started with the move last January), and I've had long stretches of headless chickenhood from time to time...so my communicative skills have taken a beating. Please forgive me, and don't think for a moment that I forgot about you !

I suppose you didn't get my e-mail a few weeks back...which isn't surprising, as I've had far too many problems with this computer to even count. I'll write a long message soon...going through a rough week health-wise, and this city is proving to be one that should have received loads of attention in 'Sicko'...

Are you still living in Paris, or back in England? I see the teaching description, but also le drapeau francais...it's okay to have nationality confusion - really ! I still struggle with it every day...

I have to tell you one funny thing: Obama's Plainfield rally that you have on video took place in a town very close to Indianapolis that I simply HATED. It's one of those 'white flight' communities, about ten miles west of where we lived (in the heart of the city, where all races somehow coexist !) I guess he figured he had the city wrapped around his finger, and was trying to reach out to more difficult audiences. Indiana's result was closer than everyone thought it would be, and he absolutely killed her in North Carolina.
Now we're moving on to the ugliest phase of all: the national race. Loads of mudslinging, accusations of broken promises already going on. Sigh.

Did you get my PM with the new e-mail address? I'm dying to hear the latest...I am fully reconnected now, and things should calm way down in a couple of days when Nathaniel goes to the Dominican Republic for a month (on Tuesday). I feel so awful that I didn't prioritize re-establishing my connectivity here earlier. For some odd reason, certain sites were reachable, but my yahoo e-mail and YT weren't, among others. Mr. Geek Squad fixed everything; naturally, I didn't understand a word he said. But it works, so that's what counts!

I'm so glad you've met Sian. I just adore her. I consider her the Welsh sister I never had!
