I found your videos today on youtube ( I loved them) and I had to comment and if you don't mind ask a few questions.
I throughly enjoy watching your videos, letting others see into your life. Your children are beautiful. I can tell from your videos how proud you are of them.
I live in Oklahoma, we have an Amish population here however I think they are more relaxed then the order you were in as they have huge John Deere Tractors.
If you don't mind I would like to ask you some questions.
I couldn't see anywhere in your videos why you chose to be an ex-Amish, I would think the reasons were many and the choice was a hard one, but why did you choose to leave the Amish life?
I work with the developmentally delayed also known as mentally retarded. Were there a lot of children with developmental problems? Since there are not a lot of new converts to the Amish life I would think that in the Amish community family trees would sooner or later overlap so that genetic problems would be more frequent.
I watched "The Devils Playground" where do the Amish teenagers get the money to purchase cars, surely their parents don't buy them cars? I am surprised that Amish parents would allow cell phones in their homes. In that program it appeared that the parents let 16 year olds run wild, somehow I can't imagine this is the case. Can you tell me how the parents deal with this time in their children's life? I know according to the program its called rumspringa but surely parents prepare their children for this very important part of their life.
I have more questions but I would rather not overwhelm you with them.

I was just talking about that to my mom, I had gone to see my brother's grave, and there was a full row of still borns, and to answer the question, retalitively, yes.

Exactly. I have 2 daughters with missing 8th chomosome, and my son is missing the 2nd, it comes from my wife who is missing the 8th too.

Well first, this is based on the Old Order Amish, so I assume they earn it on their own from their job.

Well the Old Order Amish are allowed to have trucks, cell phones, and phone shacks, as lone as it is not brought in the home. The one OO I worked for had a truck, but in the nabour's name, and had me drive it. They had a cell phone, but could not take it in the house, and they had a phone booth outside their home.

Well again this was the Old Orders. New Orders do not have such a proble with this as the OO and SA (Swartzentruber Amish). Each of these 3 "major" groups (I say that cause there are many sub groups under the 3), treat this differently. The SA do not allow as much in this time as the OO, and the NO are more close to their kids, which im my opinion is why they have less of these problems. And it appears to be that the bond between the NO and their kids in more real then the OO or the SA. Therefore the 2 later groups are more of a "repressed" group, and end up acting out more rather then stay close to the family.
