One difference about this depression and the one of the past is that there will not be a means of climbing out of it. Today on MSNBC:
London froze $600 Billion of American assets from Lehman accounts. These include IRA, 401k and pension funds. MY guess...They are holding the assets hostage until they get their piece of the bailout money from the Treasury Dept.

Unfortunately, the BAILOUT bill is not going to buy us any real significant time. It was a PR ploy to restore confidence in both the market here and abroad. It isn't going to stop the underlying conditions that have brought us here. We seriously could have a few weeks, right down to a few HOURS! It's that fragile right now. The Asian markets are showing the reality of the situation. Some of the other markets are down as much as 65%+ for the year. Here in the U.S., we're so concerned with being 27% down. Brace yourselves because I think we're going to see our market swing to match what's going on overseas.
