Country: Republic of Macedonia

République de Macédoine - Republik Makedonien - Δημοκρατία της Μακεδονίας - República de Macedonia - Республика Македония - Republika Makedonija - מקדוניה - مقدونیه - マケドニア共和国 - 馬其頓共和國
"Macedonia has its own interests and its own politics which belong to the Macedonians. The one who works for joining of Macedonia to Bulgaria, Greece, or Serbia, can consider himself as a good Bulgarian, Greek, or Serb, but not as a good Macedonian". Gotse Delchev (1872-1903)

"People who are of the same origin and who speak the same words and who live and make friends of each other, who have the same customs and songs and entertainment are what we call a nation, and the place where that people lives is called the people's country. Thus the Macedonians also are a nation and the place which is theirs is called Macedonia". Gjorgi Pulevski (1838-1895)

In his "Dictionary of Three Languages" Pulevski laid claims to Alexander the Macedonian: "Macedonia was praised," he says, "in the time of the great tsar Alexander". Next, Pulevski mentions with pride that the first books of the brothers Cyril and Methodius were in our language: "... The Macedonian language is the one which is the closest to Church Slavonic books and it is Old Slavonic", "We are called Slavs because when Cyril and Methodius translated the church books from Greek into Slavonic, they found it would be good to write in Old Slavonic and the Old Slavs lived in Macedonia".
Gjorgi Pulevski (1838-1895)

"Yes, Macedonian culture and history are quite separate from Bulgarian and Serbian culture and history; they have never been the object of an impartial and detailed study. The Serbs and the Bulgarians most unfairly took from Macedonian culture only what they could make use of for the glory of their own national names; ignoring facts of capital importance either because they did not concern them, or because they contradicted their own national aspirations. Unfortunately, the Macedonians themselves are only now beginning to study Macedonian history, having realized, towards the end of last century, that they could no longer trust the historians of Belgrade or Sofia..." Krste Petkov Misirkov (1874-1926)

"I am not Bulgarian, nor Greek, nor Tzintzar, I am pure Macedonian as were Philip and Alexander the Macedonian and Aristotle Philosopher." Gjorgi Pulevski (1838-1895)

Intereses y aficiones: Macedonia was never part of Greece until 1912. No amount of political hysteria, denial, nor bullying today will change the fact that the Greek province of Macedonia has been part of Greece for only a blink in historical terms - 95 years. The people in Greece who call themselves Macedonians are Greeks who live in Macedonia. Their ethnicity is Greek. The way a Greek in Thrace would call himself a Greek Thracian. On the other hand, most of the people who live in the Republic of Macedonia are of Macedonian ethnicity. That's how I feel, that's how my father felt, and that is how my grandfather felt. At the turn of the 20th century there were immigrants coming to America from the Ottoman Empire, declaring themselves of Macedonian ethnicity. Those are facts that will not go away, no matter how many childish tantrums Greek politicians throw nor how many embargoes or vetoes Greece imposes. People should study independent sources and learn a bit more about their own history. Denial, propaganda and hysterical reactions from a position of power will not change the historical truth.

Alexander III the Great, the King of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire is considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. He was inspiration for later conquerors such as Hannibal the Carthaginian, the Romans Pompey and Caesar, and Napoleon. Alexander was born in 356 BC in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia. He was son of Philip II, King of Macedonia, and Olympias, the princess of neighboring Epirus.
Macedonia is located in the center of the Southern Balkans, north of ancient Hellas (Greece), east of Illyria, and west of Thrace. The name "Macedonia" is the oldest surviving name of a country on the continent of Europe. The ancient Macedonians were a distinct nation, ethnically, linguistically, and culturally different from their neighbors. Their origins are in the ancient Brygian substratum that occupied the whole of Macedonian territory and in Indo-European superstratum, which settled here at the end of the 2nd millennium. Archaeological evidence shows that old European civilization flourished in Macedonia between 7000 and 3500 BC.
The answer lays in the year of 1913 when Macedonia was partitioned after the Balkan wars and Greece swallowed the biggest part - 51%. There was nothing in Macedonia then that connected that land with Greece, apart from the small 10% Greek minority scattered in southern Macedonia among the overwhelming majority of Macedonians who lived throughout the country. Greece therefore had to provide a link that would justify its claim on that half of Macedonia. That is exactly why the Greeks claim that the ancient Macedonians "were Greek", so that if in ancient times there was a Greek tribe (Macedonians) living in Macedonia, then that land therefore is Greek.

After the WWII and the creation of Socialist Republic of Macedonia IN 1945 some UNLUCKY people were forced to change their names.
One of those people living in Krushevo and being Vlach was called Theodoraki Proia and he was obliged to be renamed into Tose Proevski
Yes
The famous, popular great singer, musician who was killed in a car accident 2 years ago Tose Proevski was the grandson of the renamed person.
