The earth is going through a radical transformation. Population increase, environmental collapse, fossil fuel going out, however something unique is happening in parallel, more than ever before is the population of the earth in synch with each other. Time and space have collapsed as we pierce it and weave it with our telecommunications and the internet, the urban culture differs significantly from that of the suburban and the rural. Culturally intermixed and globalized we speak the same language, we learn a new grammar a universal syntax of media deconstruction. Data is transmitted at the speed of light around the planet and transforms, inspires, revolutionizes our perception of reality. From documentaries on the discovery channel, to glimpses of distant places all at a click of a button, all is accessible . But at what cost has this "media-ted" utopia seeped into our lives? Have our lives truly gotten better due to the interconnectivity that pervades our daily life? Are we not perhaps distracting ourselves from our essence, from the true nature of communication, the direct experience of the other? I would argue that media technologies are exponential multipliers of that which is already occurring. Nothing is introduced into the system that was not already there, it just accelerates and facilitates that which already is happening.
