Hux--
I believe that in the Ensign a few months back, they had an article about doctrine being established through the mouths of two or three witnesses--if I were to find 2 conference talks, in addition to the official declaration that said that black people were cursed for their misbehavior in the preexistence . . . would that satisfy you? |
Ha ha, never mind... your talking about the infamous answer to the negro question in 1949... But kid you are not listening... that isn't in the scriptures... it's not doctrine... How many more quotes or other forms of invalid source are you going to look up before you realize your wrong? Ha ha i got all day man.

Source?

""The attitude of the Church with reference to the Negroes remains as it has always stood. It is not a matter of the declaration of a policy but of direct commandment from the Lord, on which is founded the doctrine of the Church from the days of its organization, to the effect that Negroes may become members of the Church but that they are not entitled to the Priesthood . . . President Brigham Young said, 'Why are so many of the inhabitants of the earth cursed with a skin of blackness? It comes in consequence of their father's rejecting the power of the Holy Priesthood, and the law of God.' They will go down to death. And when all the rest of the children have received their blessings in the Holy Priesthood, then that curse will be removed from the seed of Cain, and receive all the blessings we are entitled to.'" Official statement that was referenced earlier.

Doctrine doesn't change... counsel regarding what we are suppose to be doing to build the kingdom is specific to what needs to be done at the time, so its not always the same.
Now, as far as the instruction and revelation we receive from the prophet concerning warnings or counsel... thats not doctrine... it doesn't explain our being here, where we are going, or where we came from.... its simply advice given specifically concerning the current times and the times ahead. Polygamy is an example... it's certainly not doctrine as we don't believe in the practice of multiple wives anymore, it was just counsel we received from our prophet during a very troubling time. And any member will tell you, counsel is something we always follow.

Haha you are confusing doctrine with instruction kid. What i'm saying, is that you can't say: Mormons believe this because if you read he journal of discourses (a book of theory and opinion) or if you listen to this statement (which the source even said was strictly a possible explanation and not revelation) It says so. Well, i am simply saying mormons don't believe those things, never have believed those things, and until the prophet says he received instruction form God to confirm these things in writing in our scriptures... we never will believe those things.

You are therefore saying that anything that the first presidency says should be disregarded as being from men, right, Hux?
I believe that there was an article in last month's Ensign about two or three witnesses establishing truth; if 2 or 3 leaders gave conference talks, it should be doctrine by that logic. Also, anything new that the current profit says must be disregarded. |
Polygamy was only necessary during a time when there was a great number of women in troubled times that needed the protection and benefits of a patriarch. If they hadn't done that, there would have been a whole lot of dead sisters. I would like to think God cared too much about his daughters to let that happen... hence the revelation to practice polygamy. But once again, that makes sense to me but we can never really know why. People make mistakes, even the first presidency... However i am aware of the statement made on August 17, 1951 and if you read the preceding segment that you so conveniently cut your incomplete source from, it clearly says that it was a POSSIBLE explanation... theory... not doctrine... and in no way a revelation.
So once again, not doctrine, so therefore "not valid." Haha sorry kid, you're wrong on this one buddy. |

Eternity, What God is, or even how he became, are things we can't comprehend as mortals... I can tell you're someone who values intelligence and would like to think that man is capable of understanding everything... but we just can't. There are greater things out there then ourselves my man, so don't try to play the eternity game.
