Per;The Immigration Debate:My comment had a URL and/or email address in it,so I couldn't leave it at the video...Actually,there was a lot of anti-immigrant backlash against the Irish in the 17/1800's.Watch the movie Gangs Of New York,it's one of those "based on actual events and people" movies..."No Irish Need Apply" was official hiring policy at ALL Protestant run businesses in America back then.Like the Chinese,the Irish had to deal with a system that worked against them owning property.The Irish,along with Eastern Europeans,were considered "non-white white people".They couldn't get bank loans,any kind of insurance or scholarships for higher learning...Some,like Andrew Carnegie(a Scotsman,therefore "okay"),managed to make things a little better for some Irish,but it was a difficult fight...The Irish didn't lose this stigma until the end of World War One,when,because they had fought for "God and Country",they were finally considered "real Americans".
