Thanks for posting these. I was a second bass in the Calhoun Choir from 63-66. ( I also had Talbot Thayer in 9th grade. He used to drive his green Rambler to Merrick Avenue JHS for our choir period.)
In 65 and 66 we won the Milano Award as best high school choir in the greater metropolitan NY City area. The sponsors secretly auditioned every high school choir in the region, then conducted formal tryouts of the semi-finalists. The top 6-8 choirs then performed at Town Hall. After we won both times, they cancelled the award, since, well.... what was the point? We ended the 1966 concert with Haste Thee Nymph, and we were so pumped, we sped up and raced through it (no easy trick!) On the recording, you can hear the audience - with a number of Calhoun alum present, shouting "Bravo!" It's something I'll always remember. Keep up the good work! All the best, Mike Fillon '66 - Atlanta, GA |

Hi Sue- the recording of O Day Full of Grace that I have on the Calhoun Choir channel is not that version (Oh my gawd John!!!) from the 1977 alumni- it's of the 1962 choir- and one of my favorites!

Oh Day, Full of Grace? Perhaps you've got a recording without the person fainting?
I wish our recordings weren't on cassettes (only have All County, and two of the Choral Festivals on Albums), because I'd love to hear "Challenge of Thor" again. Michele Gibson did an amazing job on piano. Suzanne |
