Reprise Records released its Monterey International Pop Festival album in tribute to two o
Reprise Records released its Monterey International Pop Festival album in tribute to two of its artists that gave memorable performances at the festival: Otis Redding, who died just six months after Monterey, and Jimi Hendrix, who died the same month as the album was released - September 1970. Reprise was restless for a new album release from one of its hottest stars, but Hendrix had not delivered new material to Reprise in two years. Reprise decided not to wait any longer and released the Monterey album. It was an opportune move because Hendrix died just after the album hit stores. The album hit 15 on the Billboard album chart. It was impressive for an album of material that had sat on the shelf for three years. It also fueled the idea at Reprise and other record companies that old material could be repackaged and sold to Hendrix fans.
Although the Monterey International Pop Festival album was released three years too late, it was no less important. Jimi Hendrix' performance at the Festival was historic and launched him into superstardom. The Monterey International Pop Music Festival took place from June 16 to June 18, 1967 and was the brainchild of Lou Adler. Over 200,000 people attended, and it is often regarded as the precursor to Woodstock. Hendrix took the stage on the final day, June 18, 1967. Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones introduced The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Two songs from the early 90's (1992?). Born and raised in Ottawa Canada, Sue Foley hails from a large, music-loving family. In her early years, she sang with her father, who loved to play Celtic folk songs while her brothers were in bands hammering out the hard rock covers of the 1970s. Her love of the Rolling Stones and other blues rock bands found Sue checking song writing credits on the albums, where the names like Willie Dixon, McKinley Morganfield and Chuck Berry were found, leading to her study and appreciation of the blues. For her thirteenth birthday, she received her first guitar - "it was my saving grace," she says, and locked herself in her room until she learned how to play. At age sixteen she was gigging around Ottawa clubs, at eighteen she left home for Vancouver, British Columbia, with nothing more than a small suitcase and her guitar. Foley sent a demo tape of herself to Clifford Antone's label (Antone's Records) in 1990. Impressed, the record label arranged an audition for the guitarist. She moved to Austin, Texas and soon signed a recording contract with Antone's. By now she has been writing and playing for over twenty years, has recorded ten albums, for both Antone's Records and Shanachie Records and has spent many years on the road as a bandleader, lead vocalist, guitarist and manager of her own band. In addition to her own touring, she has also shared the stage with other blues musicians, such as B. B. King, Buddy Guy and John Lee Hooker. More info: http://www.suefoley.com/
