Classical music, in its purest form, back in the aristocratic times of Bach and Vivaldi, does NOT appeal to everyone, that's why modern adaptations must be made to this kind of instrumental music. I find the following comments to be completely absurd: "VM is the Britney Spears of the violin world" by EvolvedDilusion or something stupid like "VM completely butchered this piece" by Meliere. So I think that Vanessa Mae is the most creative, most versatile violinist out there, and that's why she's my favorite violinist. I find her modern renditions to be like a breath of fresh air, and I'm glad that she's brave enough to do them.

I'm not an expert when it comes to music.
I only know what I like.
I can't comment on technique and I would understand (not agree)
why someone would look down on her because she plays popular music and is rather good looking and is not ashamed to make the most of it.
There are other artist for example Opera stars who do the same
I love Sarah Brightman.
I don't think anyone thinks less of her because of the videos she has made.
I guess people aren't use to an instrumentalist who plays classical music not only expanding their repertoire but also there technique.
They miss the point totally.
Any violinist can play rock and make it sound more like classical music.
The hard part is to play rock using a classical instrument and it still sounds like rock.

I completely agree with you. Though I'm not a big fan of her, it's unfair for people to always put her down. I think some people just want to sound knowledgeable, and what better way to do that than to criticize the playing ability of someone famous? Of course, few complain about her technique when she plays a strictly classical piece. I also don't understand why people are jealous that she earns so much money while supposedly "having no talent." A rap star probably earns ten times what she does. I'm hesitant to say they have considerably less talent, as that sounds a bit narrow-minded, but let's just say I'm sure they don't practice rap etudes for hours every day.

You know what? Despite her "limited" technique, she's probably done more for classical music in terms of bringing it to mainstream than Heifetz/Mutter/Joshua Bell put together.

It's not just about her playing, it's how she goes about it. She looks totally 'natural' (for lack of a better word) when she plays. She doesn't wince when she plays or has a really odd posture. In fact, if I was teaching the violin to a beginner, I would use her as a model for having the perfect posture for playing.

She's not the best violinist technique-wise, but she doesn't need to be. I will gladly sacrifice her technique for her personality which has attracted listeners from all backgrounds and cultures.

I find it quite sad that the jerks are making these crude and stupid comments about your postings. While I am a bit more of a purist, I am quite aware that this concert-quality violinist has hit on a way to become the richest violinist in the world. In a world in which Britney Spears who has no talent other than that of showing off her siliconized body and makes more than $100,000,000, this can hardly be faulted. I don't like the backbeat but obviously a lot of people do. More power to her.
