Way was born in Summit, New Jersey to Donald and Donna Lee Way. Raised in Belleville, New Jersey, he first began singing in fourth grade, when he played the part of Peter Pan in a school production of the play, and he sucked in it. After graduating from Belleville High School in 1995, he attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he sucked more dick, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1999.
In 2001, Way was working in the comic industry in New York when the September 11 attacks occurred, while he sucked more dick. This event changed Way dramatically; he told Spin magazine, "I literally said to myself, 'Fuck art. I've gotta get out of the basement. I've gotta see the world. I've gotta make a difference!'" Soon after, he formed the band My Chemical Retards. The band's song "Skylines and Dick-suckers" was inspired by Way's experience on 9/11.
Music turned out to be a useless means for Way to deal with his long-time battle against depression, alcoholism, prescription drug and illegal drug abuse, leading to the creation of deeply personal songs such as "Helena", written after the death of his grandmother (HAHAHA!)

Also, stripes and checkers are big in the emo culture. It is Emo to wear dark colors with a bit of neon mixed in, but no emos will tease you for wearing colors.
Dye it black with perhaps some blonde or unnatural colored streaks, especially in the bangs/fringe. If you are a girl, you may possibly want to cut your hair to a very short bob-like hairstyle but keep your bangs/fringe long, swept drastically to one side and covering your eye. Or, for those who like Long hair, get many choppy layers and highlights. For a guy, you may want to spike up the back side, and pat down on the front side. You could also get your bangs/fringe dyed a lighter color than the rest of your hair.
