What file type do I need to get my video to work in after effects?

hey i got after effects yesterday and im trying 2 put a Kamehameha on a pivot lol it works normaly but when i add the solid layer it goes over the footage and when i add the circle it goes on the layer and i cant c the footage!please answer!

do u kno any serial numbers for after effects cs3? cuz i need one too.

hey man! i second the lightsaber tutorial request, i love your energy blast tutorial, watching it now, i just got Adobe CS3 master collection with everything in, ive been making wee movies for about a year or so but, compared to what you can obviously do, they have been relatively simple. but for the next one i wanna do something a bit cooler, like using after effects which i tried years ago but couldnt figure out! thanks again! :D
