The younger of two siblings, Derek Brantley was born in Brooklyn, New York. He spent most of his youth in Long Island. It was here that they noticed Derek was no average youngster. He excelled in many sports, such as soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, hockey, and the "Sport of Kings", boxing. He also managed to find time to serve on his Student Council, sing with the choir, and act in the Drama program at his high school.

Derek continued his endeavors in college at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where he double-majored in Political Science and Economics. There, he became heavily involved in theater, taking classes and participating in musicals and plays.

As Derek gained more experience, constantly improving his skills and building on his talent, people began to take notice of this rising young star. In his freshman year, he was voted "Best New Actor" in both the Michigan Daily & the Ann Arbor Observer. His desire and passion for the arts grew and culminated in his decision to pursue a career in acting at a professional level.

While Derek was senior, he auditioned for and was hired as a member of the Touring Company for the prestigious Second City Comedy Theater in Detroit, MI. Second City is renowned for producing a list of celebrity alum's that include household names like; John Belushi & Dan Akyroyd, Gilda Radner, Mike Myers, and Stephen Colbert. Here, Derek honed his skills as an actor, writer and improviser. After Derek graduated he joined Second City on a full time basis partaking in the Touring and Mainstage Companies.

After two years with Second City, Derek felt it was time to return to his roots of New York City where he would pursue his film and television career.

Once there, he landed various film, television, and theater roles. His feature film movie credits include roles in celebrated movies like "Belly", and " U.S. Marshals". Derek's television credits include appearances on "The Tonight Show", "Fastlane", "City Guys" and co-hosting on several MTV shows. It was at MTV, that Derek strengthened his talents to prepare him for his ultimate goal to become one of Hollywood's best and most prolific actors.

Since that time, Derek's numerous film, television, studio, and theater productions have provided him with an opportunity to amass a host of credits on both coasts. A short list of those credits include; "RENT" TOUR CO. as "Benjamin Coffin III", "8-Comedy Improv Troupe" which performed @ the World Famous "Laugh Factory", cast credits for the "The Post Show" (of Turner Broadcasting's www.superdeluxe.com Broadband Network), "Zekkei" (Fuji Television-Japan), stars in and co-wrote, DR3 Films fast action-comedy "Spanish Harlem", and has a major role in "Ellipsis", a film that has showcased at; Park City Film Music Festival 2007; Arizona Black Film Showcase 2007; 3rd Annual Women of Color Film & Arts Festival 2007; 2nd Annual Sweet Auburn Int'l Film Festival 2007; and the 8th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival 2007.
