I actually don't count as an atheist because obviously we cannot prove the non-existence of God, so I don't try. I call myself atheist because it is basically the same thing. I'm a skeptic. I certainly don't believe in any religion thus far. Their Gods always reflect their own cultural prejudices and beliefs, and are very small and narrow-minded in exactly the way that the culture that spawned them is.
The people I am hoping to reach are the ones who haven't yet made up their minds. I can't do anything about the present generations of Theists, but I would like to imagine a world where my future kids can say "I don't believe in any God." and not be shunned by their peers and classmates. And also, where not all the candidates in an election believe solely in The Christian Family Values, and promote laws to enforce them on us all.
Religion creates moral cowards. A person may know something is wrong or right, but instead they follow whatever their holy book says because God must know more than us humans. It's a sad way to live.
I think we're getting closer to a time where people will use their minds and not their holy book to make decisions. I'm trying to get us closer to that point.
