Other Batman properties I got on DVD: boxsets of the fabulous and genuineally criminally underrated Batman: The animated Series from the first half of the '90s (Mark Hamil's Joker voice over I truely love; In fact, from Ceaser Romero on down, I LOVE ALL INCARNATIONS of this classic Villian, albiet for different reasons of course), and plus the alright/interesting theatrical side adventure Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. I don't have the SubZero movie, or any of the new animated younger Batman stuff, but I've watched it on digital cable.
I also got the '68 first theatrical Batman The Movie on DVD (the special edition). Interesting and sometimes priceless commentary from Adam West and Burt Ward (whom my sister Lori met breifly as a young lass). I enjoy the old high camp series for the pure brainless popculture mini milestone that it was/still is, and I do wish episdoes were on DVD. Alright, rant over! *lmao* |

Concerning Batman film wise: Well I got the Anthology boxset, and I feel the first two are interesting films, though like all of Burton's directed ones (I'm not his biggest fan, like many will admit) at least do boast, for their time they were made, fabulous mainstream production design, spot on casting and some interesting pop-culture moments for Bruce Wayne/Batman. I feel the last said about the beyond fuckin' lameoid Schumacher directed ones, the better. At least Kidman didn't speak with her truely irrating Aussie accent, and poor Uma Thurman, who I adore, should be embarrassed.
The series re-boot as a much more somber & serious new series of films was wonderful. Ya can't compare them, and I love it. While the editors of Nolan's films still can't edit a fight sequence coherantly to save their damn lives, I loved the new Joker and many elements of The Dark Knight. Probably my fave Batman film, so far. |

J.C., my good man! I must say I agree with you a lot, and you always as a big cinephile, bring up more then solid points that makes me wanna re-examine some stuff. I sent ya a PM a while ago, by the way, but take your time.
Yeah the scripts after GoldenEye, which I felt was at least good eye candy, were pretty piss poor indeed (Tomarrow Never Dies, urgh, ect) and the direction I felt pedestrian. Ah well. Casino Royale, which had a flew flaws (the Texas Hold'Em set pieces do go on a bit too long; ect) , was easily the best in two decades. Keep in mind outside of Connery and some Roger Moore instalments, only half of his actually, I'm only so much of a James bond viewer. TBS here in the U.S. played the Fullscreen versions to fucking death for years, and I would suffer through some lackluster instalments (MoonRaker, anyone?) to enjoy earily '90s cool kids stuf like Captain Planet (yeah, I know *lol*) and WCW Wrestling. |

Also see "Layer Cake" with Craig, amazing UK crime film. And yes Christain Bale and Christopher Nolan made the first Batman movies I can truly admire and respect. Even Tim Burton's didn't really get to me as a kid, great looking, but so OTT, jokey, with plots that never held up. Just my opinion. But Nolan does it for me, hell I'm a HUGE Micheal Mann fan, so when he used "Heat" as a model for TDK, as he stated in interviews, he got me! I've seen all of Nolan's films and more or less liked them all. I hope he sticks with The Dark Knight for years to come! :)

I just wish Brosnan had a better sendoff than "Die Another Day" which was so lame. Although he ended up in the sack with Halle Berry which isn't all bad. Brosnan made a great villain in "The Fourth Protocol", no humour, just totally ruthless. He wouldn't have been as effective as Craig but I think he could have given a good stab at it. But yeah Craig, new writer Paul Haggis, and finally a dead serious and gritty approach made "Casino Royale" 2006, the best Bond for me since 1969. I just hope QOS can keep the quality up. The director Marc Forster did "Monster's Ball", quite good, so I'm hopeful.

No you can pretend QOS is colorie free cake. Heck you can tell people you don't like, its pregnancy free sex and really mess with them! At least you know the facts. I like all the Bonds actually, some I prefer more, Craig is one of the best for sure. I liked Brosnan, after Dalton they wanted less gritt and someone more romantic. I thought he made a great 007 and I loved "Goldeneye".
But after that the films got bigger and dumber with lousy scripts in the bargain. Brosnan still did it for me despite the silly puns he was given. The series needed a major overhaul but the producers sort of blamed him when they should have fired the writers. |

....the Governor calls it "The Law of Quantum of Solace...amount of comfort". As Bond notes: when the Quantum of Solace stands at zero, you've got to get away to save yourself. The film is based on the story but apparently uses it as a theme, as 007 is still in grief after his affair with Vesper in "Casino Royale". His Solace is I understand is closure which he wants desperately. I'm sure the title will be worked into the dialogue somewhere but that's what Fleming intended in his story. Whew! Hope that helps.

Those definitions sound good but they don't apply here. I'll probably need more than one box, so here's Part 1: "Quantum of Solace" is the title of a short story by Ian Fleming collected in the 1960 anthology "For Your Eyes Only". Bond is in Nassau on a mission and is attending a dinner party with the Governor. The Governor refers to a nearby couple and begins a discussion on when relationships cannot be salvaged. Some things can be tolerated but when one or more of the parties involved actually wishes to destroy the other, it can't last........
