"I'm not a terrorist! I'm a sick mom! I need help!" yelled the mother of three after she missed the 2:58 p.m. US Airways Express flight to Tucson, said airport workers who witnessed the confrontation. They said one cop put his knee in her back to restrain her while others grabbed her flailing arms.
"I believe she was a little not-there. She kept punching. She kept screaming. She kept kicking," one worker told The News. "She looked really scared, really frightened. I think she was afraid to go to jail." Carol Anne Gotbaum was handcuffed and left in an airport holding cell. Police say they checked on her every 15 minutes; she had been screaming the entire time, but at one point, police realized she was quiet and found that she was not breathing. She had been handcuffed behind her back but when Gotbaum was found, her hands were front of her and the handcuffs were up by her neck, leading police to believe she was trying to get out of the handcuffs. It took over two hours for the Phoenix airport authorities to notify Noah Gotbaum that his wife had died in police custody at Phoenix airport. He called the airport's communications centre on Sept. 28 at 4:39 p.m., 5:27 p.m. and 6:01 p.m. Carol Gotbaum was obviously destressed and even verbalized that, "I sick." Why wasn't she immediately assessed by some kind of medical control; ie airport EMS. Anyone who has worked security for any kind of time knows that you NEVER leave a hysterical person in ANY form of physical or chemical restraint unattended.(Constant visual observation is most often required.) What if this woman had a seizure or a heart attack? The fact that the prelimary assessment is that she suffocated/strangled herself on the metal handcuffs tells me that she should have NEVER be left alone in that holding cell. Hope the City of Tucson has a good legal team because this has MAJOR liability written all over it! Gotbaum, 45, broke down several times on her flight from New York and confided to a passenger sitting next to her that she was going to rehab.
"Ms. Gotbaum would break into tears during the flight and while they were speaking with each other," according to a police statement describing an account by the passenger, Jodi Hall. According to the account from Hall, "Ms. Gotbaum said that someone would have come with her, but it was her decision to do it on her own."
The homicide unit has wrapped up its probe of the death, and Sgt. Andy Hill says it appears that the police acted appropriately. "If your blood alcohol is three times the legal limit for driving, if they have prescription drugs that are part of their system, that's going to cause problems," said Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill, referring to the autopsy report.
Meanwhile, a Gotbaum family attorney said the findings increase the likelihood that he'll file a claim - the first step toward a lawsuit - against the city. "She died as a result of being put in that room with that chain, alone and unobserved," said Phoenix attorney Michael Manning, adding that the family has not made a final decision about legal action. "She didn't die because she was drinking. She died because she was asphyxiated."

Ruslana Korshunova former Vogue covergirl, appears to have been thrown to her death from h
Ruslana Korshunova former Vogue covergirl, appears to have been thrown to her death from her Manhattan apartment building in an apparent murder made to look like a suicide.
Korshunova was murdered.
Police say the highly suspicious fall is under a tightly secretive investigation. This has all the classic earmarks of a Russian style execution where they wanted to send a graphic, horrifying message to others as to what happens to people that don't do what they are supposed to do or maybe did or said something they weren't supposed too.
This is not the first case where police have prematurely labeled a woman's death suicide. Adrienne Shelly was found dead hanging in her bathroom, also in the 1st Precinct. Cops initially ruled her death a suicide, but later arrested a construction worker who admitted strangling her and hanging her body. What if that guy hadn't come forward!
The police failed to investigate her death and just labelled it a suicide. Investigators claim Ruslana climbed through a small hole in thick netting on the balcony and crawled to a building under construction next door then jumped from the Water Street building in Manhattan. She owned an apartment on the ninth floor. She was only 20 and would have been 21 on July 2. The blonde, green-eyed top model was well known for her beautiful, fairy-tale like face and amazing, long, chestnut locks.
Ruslanna was afraid of heights according to her friends. Her death could be connected to the model wanting out desperately and not being allowed to do so by the Paris-NewYork-Moscow mafia that controls teeange models. Some reports have linked the economic giant Gazprom with creating a web of model managment and discovery with a a tightly controlled escort spinoff that sets up supermodels with corporative tycoons.
A former boyfriend, Artem Perchenok, 24, said he dropped Korshunova off at her apartment several hours before her death after they watched the Demi Moore film Ghost together.
"I heard what sounded like a gunshot or a bomb or an explosion," said a stunned Con Ed worker talking to a cop nearby before it happened. "I looked down the street, and I say to the cop, 'Did that person just get hit by a car?' " said the worker.
The two men raced over. "Her arms were crushed," Patrick said. "Her head was on the left side and blood was coming out in a pool." The window from which she fell had a balcony, which had construction netting around it that appeared to have been cut. Assassins, who often kill for as little as $1,000, have targeted hotel bosses, restaurateurs, sports figures, celebrities, businessmen, politicians, journalists and Afghan war veterans. Hundreds of ex-KGB men and veterans of the Afghan war veterans offered their skills to the crime bosses.
Russian organized crime has grown to pose a threat law enforcement officials think could be greater than that posed by La Cosa Nostra. "Italian organized crime in America is a pimple on a horse's ass compared with Russian organized crime in America—and globally," says Robert I. Friedman, author of a book on the Russian Mafia.
Currently, Russian mobsters are operating in over 50 countries. Under pressure from the Nixon administration, Moscow agreed to allow more Soviet Jews to emigrate. But in a move copied years later by Fidel Castro(remember the movie Scarface), the Soviets opened prison doors in the gulag and thousands of hard-core criminals left for the United States. Since then, the Russian Mafia has been linked to penny stock manipulation, gas excise tax scams, health care fraud and cybercrime—criminal enterprises where they are pioneers, not just perpetrators.
We all remember the past few "hits" of outspoken critics who wrote articles and spoke publicly about events in the former Soviet Union and I assure you, there is ample cold war activity flourishing today with embedded covert agents assigned to various tasks.
Keep this in mind - No highly successful, 20 year old beautiful young model, living a life of luxury in a Manhattan apartment, with her entire life ahead of her, no known psychological or financial or any other problems is going to suddenly commit suicide and it is totally bizarre that a female, particularly would elect such a gory exit. Of all the normal, preferred methods a person like her might select, dashing out through a plate glass window to fall nine stories onto the street.
"She's one of the sweetest, nicest people you'll ever meet," said a friend, who did not want to be identified by name.
Korshunova had just returned from a modeling gig in Paris and seemed to be "on top of the world." Ruslana's mother, Valentina Kutenkova, does not believe in her daughter's suicide. "She told me about her work problems about a year ago. She said that she wanted to quit the modeling business. Everything was fine with her recently though. If she had had problems at work, she would have told me."

Divers found bodies floating head up in airpockets inside the sunken seven-storey Philippi
Divers found bodies floating head up in airpockets inside the sunken seven-storey Philippine passenger ferry, Princess of the Stars. Navy spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Edgard Arevalo, says "there are no signs of life" in the wreckage. Shipping company Sulpicio Lines Inc, owner of the ill-fated MV Princess of the Stars passenger vessel that capsized off Sibuyan Island over the weekend on Monday released the names of 753 (an updated figure) passengers and 112 crew on board the ship when the incident happened.
A total of 48 people are known to have survived the ferry disaster. At this stage 60 corpses had been found above water. One male foreigner appeared to be among the bodies recovered. More than 100 US and Philippine divers continue to comb the wreckage.
The victims of the ferry disaster in the Philippines as well as those hit by the passage of Cyclone Fengshen were in Pope Benedict XVI's prayers last Sunday.
Speaking to visitors and pilgrims in St Peter's Square after the midday Angelus, the Pope expressed his deep sorrow on learning of the fate of over 700 people, passengers and crew aboard the MV Princess of Stars, which capsized on high sea's last weekend. Many of the dead are young children noted Pope Benedict. Relief workers report that the storm has left hundreds of dead, submerging entire communities and setting off landslides throughout the archipelago.
Queen Elizabeth has sent her condolences to the Filipino people who suffered widely from typhoon 'Frank' over the weekened. "I have been deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in the Visayas and Luzon regions and on the MV Princess of the Stars. Please accept my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in the devastating typhoon.'
Much is being made of why Princess of the Stars was allowed to sail when Typhoon Signal No.1 was operative. The Philippine Coast Guard said it had advised shipping lines against sailing. The owners said conditions at the time the ship left port (9 pm, Friday) were considered safe.
The owners had knowledge of the strong typhoon threatening the southern Philippines. They knew that sailing on very rough seas and powerful winds with hundreds of passengers and tons of cargo was dangerous. Now the blame game begins. A lawyer for Sulpico, Arthur Lim cited rules issued in 1998 saying that the coast guard had the responsibility of plotting storm routes and issuing these to shipping companies for guidance. New guidelines were issued in 2007, repealing the 1998 guidelines cited by Sulpicio officials. In the new guidelines the ship captain is given the responsibility to decide whether to leave port or not.
Can you believe, Sulpicio officials said they had not received the 2007 guidelines!
Only 48 people have been found alive out of 865 passengers and crew on board. Families continue to flock to the Sulpicio office in Pier 4 and passenger terminals in pier 5, fighting off sleep and hunger just to ask about the status of their loved ones.
The USNS Stockham and a P-3 reconnaissance aircraft were sent to the Philippines to assist in search and rescue efforts to locate the ship passengers.
(Editorial Manila Times) A big ship sinks during a storm or in pacific weather, hundreds of passengers and crew lose their lives, an investigation starts, the hearing takes an inordinate time, the decision pends, no official report is made and amnesia develops over the case. The shipping line casts off again for more profitable business.
The government has sought the assistance of international agencies in handling toxic materials and identifying the dead, counseling survivors and bereaved families.
Translation of song (1st verse):
In my fantasy I see a just world, Where everyone lives in peace and in honesty. I dream of spirits that are always free, Like the clouds that fly, Full of humanity in the depths of the spirit.
Condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.

A crisis of out-of-control gun culture and male rage, heightened by a glorification of hyp
A crisis of out-of-control gun culture and male rage, heightened by a glorification of hypermasculinity and violence in the media? The US Secret Service found in their study of school shootings, the vast majority, 80% of these shooters, are suicidal. There have been over a dozen school shootings in American schools and universities within the past three years, resulting in the deaths of more than 50 students and countless injuries. The lone male "outsider shooter" is a common denominator, as well as most of the victims being females. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (1999 Columbine High School shooting rampage) spent "more and more time with their computers, to the point that they may have been unable to distinguish the boundaries between their virtual lives and their real lives," says Oregon Health & Science University psychiatrist Jerald Block, M.D. "Then, as they got into trouble with school authorities, limits were put on their use of the computer. This made them react with homicidal rage and suicidal depression." The motivations for rampage shootings are to attain power or to exact revenge on the community or large groups within the community. Also, there exists a clear and concentrated repeating pattern of Wednesdays and/or Thursdays. Homicide, as Freud said, is suicide turned outward, and that's exactly the model that is being followed. Suicide is also homicide turned inward. School shootings tend to be carried by former/current employees or students who feel the need to avenge perceived wrongs and they use the school as a public stage for their rage. Disturbing trends surrounding the shootings are easy access to guns and the increasingly fragile mental health of the shooters. Most contemporary school shootings tend to occur primarily during two periods of the school year - at the beginning (late Aug through October) and near the the end of the academic year (March-April). While the problem of school-related shootings occurred across history, it was the intense media coverage of the famous incidents, including West Paducah, Kentucky; Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Littleton, that created the public perception of school shootings as an emergent and increasing social problem. Thus, the school shooting problem as broadly recognized had more to do with the media coverage of recent incidents than actual changes in levels of violence in schools.
The latest school shooting in a high school in southern Finland, resulted in the deaths of seven students and the headmistress of a Jokela high school. The shooter shot himself and later died in hospital. The last major attack in Finland occurred in 2002 when a man killed himself and six others in a bomb blast at a shopping mall in Helsinki. In 1989 a 14-year-old pupil shot dead two middle-school children in Rauma, western Finland. The latest massacre was prefigured by a series of chilling internet postings by Auvinen, including a YouTube video announcing the precise time and venue for the killings. More recently at Northern Illinois University a shooting took place during which a gunman shot several people on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois; five of his victims were killed, eighteen were wounded.

All four were found near the collapsed stone chimney of the multipurpose building that was leveled. The National Weather Service said it was an EF3 on the 1-to-5 Enhanced Fujita scale of tornado intensity, with an estimated wind speed of 145 mph. The twister cut a path estimated at 14 miles long. Governor Chet Culver would not address questions about whether the Scouts should have remained at the campground after severe weather alerts were issued.
